The actual Great Wall for the game The Great Wall!

Update 2/9/2024

I'm excited to share this design is finished. We have updated the wall slightly to add texture on the ends (rocks and bricks) so it looks like its being constructed when you only have a partial wall, we have also changed the colour to a limestone white to match the towers. We are now printing stock and it will be available this week. If decide to get this for your game you won't be disappointed in the quality, design and finish... our kids all thought it was all resin printed, that's how good it is!

Update 26/08/2024

After looking at the wall for a while I wasn't happy with the amount of Detail in the Towers. It had to scream more China! So I've done the following:

  • Added rafters to the roof which will be printed in brown
  • Increased the size of the overhand on the red tiles on top of the rafters.
  • Increased the height of the tiled roof
  • Added lintels on the Arches
  • Deeper carved out arches
  • Added Brickwork for the arches
  • Added a timber panelled door.
  • Changed the rock texture slightly on the tower
  • Engraved some of the texture deeper
  • and finally I've reshaped the Tower a bit.

I think this is looking a lot better. It's printing now with my prototype ready in about 14 hours. Here is the new render:

Here is the final product. We've found a nicer colour too, limestone white.

The stone texture, brickwork, pavers, and tiles have quite bit of depth to them and will come out really nice dry brushed with a wash. This is looking much better than my earlier prototype. We are printing this one at extra fine quality 0.1 layer heights to capture all that detail, and so it comes up really nice painted. With those mini's and artwork, The Great wall board game deserves nothing but the best.

It takes 1.5 days to print 4 towers!

Update 20/08/2024

Here is the final product finished. It fits perfectly on the board each wall section lining up with the previous and with no gaps between each section. Now it looks like a wall and not a set of pyramid/towers:

And my painting of a lower section of the wall:

Original Post

I've been debating for some time as to whether to create some 3D wall pieces for the Great Wall. After watching a video on the great wall, I was inspired to get this done. Last time we played the Great Wall it was a nuisance finding all the pieces and assembling each piece, and my cardboard is starting to wear already. So time for a durable solution. I wasn't happy with a straight wall, just about every picture of the great wall shows it's not straight. I'm sure there are some sections, but I've put a bit more time into it to create a wall that looks like the real thing. And you can't have a wall without the towers from the Black Powder Expansion. These towers should look like the ones from the wall in China, squarish, with a small building on top. I've designed this so we get the classical Chinese tiled roof, and yet can have a soldier still fit.

Printing now, and here are some renders:
