Western Legends BIG BOX with our upgrades?
Share
It's EKKA royal show day, a day off work, minor flooding outside with all the rain here, so a perfect day to put together the Western Legends Big Box:
This took some time. Unfortunately for us there are some items we don't have in our collection. Was really hoping to get a timber trading post in this, but it's not included. That said the fresh timber aroma got us enthusiastic to start putting this together. Even our 6 year old daughter helped and managed to assemble some pieces herself. This aint the easiest organiser to assemble!
We knew we would have to make modifications to this organiser to fit our items. A little more room is required for our buildings and to store our epic mountains, and we have the playmat, so we wanted to make the larger mountains for they playmat fits. Prior to this our game was stored in 3 separate boxes, and it was all a bit of a mess.
It took us a while building the big box timber insert with a few frustrations along the way, however what we have ended up with was well worth the effort invested. We only had to to make some very minor modifications to fit all our buildings from Western Legends, Western Legends Ante Up, and our mountains. Our hideouts will also fit if you don't have the upgraded poker chips (otherwise you'll need to store either the upgraded poker chips or our hideouts separately).
The only items we've had to remove are the timber round containers for each player, we broke several during the build process of the timber organiser (so we will be designing our own boxes for this) plus a few little spare trays to hold the retail poker chips that we will be redesigning to fit the new organisation.
This means we have a solution that will be very affordable to add to the Big Box that will store the majority of our upgrades in a single box! Woohoo, I'm really glad about this. It will fit all our upgrades, plus all the expansions, and all upgrades the the Big Box supports for Western Legends (with exception to our hideouts in combination with the upgraded large poker chips).
For those that already have assembled the Big Box, your time will not be wasted as most components remain the same. We just remove a few dividers in the building tray to fit all our buildings instead, and no worries the tray is still just as sturdy. We don't own the timber shop stalls, but they should fit in place of the cardboard ones fine.
Here are our ventures with putting everything in the box, this photo shows the travelling trader, and trading post new locations (on top of the large trading post lid), with the space they vacate used to hold our Epic mountains (shown below is our larger mountains for the player mat which are 10% larger than our standard mountains). We also have the hideout mountains for Ante Up Western Legends stored here too. On the far left are the holders for the upgraded poker chips (we don't own these yet, but wanted to ensure I still support customers that do). This is where the hideouts will go if you don't have the upgraded poker chips. To the right of that we have some trays for the retail tokens (we will print replacement ones of these as we need 4 instead of the supplied 3, and printed they will fit a bit nicer in the box. We then have the mini's tray (maybe there were more mini's in the Kickstarter campaign, not sure why we have some left over space). Finally the Large card holder on the right.
We are designing the player boxes to fit inside the trading posts, as there is plenty of room in each slot to hold a container with lid, this will be designed so that you can pass to every player. My plan and idea... A little ammo themed box that while playing you can use to hold all your GOLD! This should suit nicely with the player board.
We then simply place the ante up board and the building tray on top. For the building tray, we plan to print out an outline on paper with the building names at the bottom tray for an easy reminder of where the buildings sit.
The Ante up player board then goes on top again which create a level top with the building tray.
We can then just add the instructions, player aids, player mats, and player board on top. We have the hard cover rule book (with all expansions included). This book is considerably thicker than the rule sheets from all the expansions as it has extra content plus the hard cover. Even with that placed on top, the box comes within a couple mm of the bottom of the box. A job complete and an outcome I'm very happy with. See below the lid sitting almost flush (with full hard cover rule book inside! if you don't have the hard cover rule book it will sit completely flush).
So all you'll need to purchase from us to make this all work, are those little Gold themed player boxes, and a couple little trays for the retail tokens, a tray for the hideouts (if you wish). So this will be a very affordable alteration to support those goodies from 3Dlevelup in a single box. In my mind this big box is worth the purchase as I can finally have everything together organised without items getting damaged or worn from improper storage.
